Felines have been dominating my existence for as long as I can remember. My life, then and now, is not complete without the presence of these furry creatures.
During my childhood, cats were fed either boiled fish flakes mixed with rice, or meal leftovers, or both. Processed cat food was unheard of.
Over the years, my cats have been feeding on whatever kibble brands I could lay my hands on - Iams, Eukanuba, Friskies, Purina, Royal Canin, Science Diet, Snappy Tom, Whiskas.
Iams, Eukanuba and Royal Canin, expensive but runaway favourites, topped the list. Science Diet gave God-awful smelling poo. Friskies and Purina were good for kittens. Snappy Tom was a welcome treat. Whiskas, way down the scale, was barely tolerated.
Although in Islam there is no specific requirement for pet food to be halal, I knew I would feel more comfortable handling kibbles that have been so certified.
Fed Awang & Lillie their new chow today. Verdict? They seemed to like it... :-))

Puteri, how nice! we dont have much choice. One cat - Gizmo, practically lives next door and mingle with the neighbour's dogs. We cat stop her. also, the neighbour feeds and and really spoils her. I dont want to know what she eats when she is there.
I guess there's nothing much that you can do, kan kteh? takpa la, at least the neighbours are kind to cats..
snappy tom marketed their catfoods as halal many many years ago but their ads were met with criticism from the public who said it was all a gimmick, and that such label was unnecessary yaddda yadda yadda. They changed the labels to 'suci bersih' after that, to indicate the usage of only halal materials, without actually using the word 'halal' (since some nitwits think the public is so stupid they will eat anything that is labelled halal, including catfood, duh!). whiskas and friskies also have that suci bersih label i think.
as for imported ones, i'm quite sure they don't use halal chicken or lambs, but what i do know is that if the ingredients include swine product, it won't be sold here. When i was giving my cats science plan, i wanted to switch from the regular type to the indoor formula (i saw that they have the indoor formula in the hill's catalogue). But i found out it's not available in msia as it didn't get jakim approval due to its swine content. so, i switched to royal canin, the indoor formula, and am quite certain there's no babi in there. non-halal ayam is not so bad i think... after all, my cats also catches cicak and lipas on regular basis, although they don't eat it, but still... hehe
i agree, sue. i cuma seriau kot2 ada swine content ajer. ayam/daging tak sembelih tu taklah kisah sangat for catfood nih. and yes, i hazily remember snappy tom dulu ada chop halal, then the logo disappeared..
