I was touched that you highlighted this song: Johar Bahar was my great uncle (my grandma's kid brother). Did you know him personally, ma'am?
Unfortunately no, dear, tapi this is my favourite among all the patriotic songs there are.. the melody and the lyrics menyentuh hati..

Puteri, we had a really swell time yesterday at the malaysia carnival..good turn out, the sun was out - and as the MC for the dance troupe - I had to announce joget lambaaak and great fun was had by all, especially this mak cik.
SElamat menyambut 51 tahun merdeka though i believe we are a bit older than the nation,. kan?

As someone who's a bit older than the nation (I remember Templer Templing in Kuantan, probably the last BA BA-ing in Trengganu, Pok Heng in the Chartered Bank at the foot of Bukit Puteri (not yours by any chance?), and Tuan Bang, er, Banging in Kelantan before we all shouted Merdeka) may I wish you and all your lovely readers Selamat Hari Kebangsaan (I think Hari Merdeka is a wee bit passe now).
And then of course, Selamat Berpuasa. Lovely blog you have here, and that Dungun picture's made me feel all maudlin now...
And of course in Trengganu, once a year, we celebrate that great big railway terminus we have in Dungun, when we all make our Kuih (or is it Tepung?) Sura.
PS I've just remembered: in Kuantan they also had a Tuan Gila. (But not giler-giler, like our kids - and some adults - now).

we are indeed a we bit older than the nation; I was three when Tunku raised his hand to shout Merdeka! but living in the boondocks I don't remember a thing, actually.
Glad you enjoyed yrself at the carnival, kak Teh. and Awang, you may be far away, but you haven't forgotten a thing!
