The Queen and The Presidents

Queen Elizabeth II through the years...

She has been around like, well, forever. Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in 1926, she ascended the British throne age 26 upon the death of her father, King George VI in 1952.

... at age 3

... at age 7

During her reign, there have been 11 U.S. presidents and she has met every one of them except Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969).

Harry Truman (1945-1953) she met in 1951 before becoming queen; Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), in 1957 when he was a former president.

... with Barack & Michelle Obama in 2009

... with George W. Bush in 2003

... with Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton in 2000

... with George H. Bush in 1991

... with Ronald Reagan in 1982

... with Jimmy Carter in 1977

... with Gerald Ford in 1976

... with Richard Nixon in 1970

... with John & Jacqueline Kennedy in 1961

... with Dwight Eisenhower in 1957

... with Herbert Hoover in 1957

... with Harry Truman in 1951

LF - she visited malaysia a few times; in 1972 (State Visit), 1989 (Commonwealth Heads of Govt Meeting), 1998 (Commonwealth Games), and I think once in the 60s.

Zah - depa ni Allah bagi lanjut usia. Queen Mother aritu pun died at 101. Charles ni pun dah 63, mak dok sihat & aktif lagi. buatnya QE pun live to be 100... jenuhla dia tunggu..

i think she cld stepdown like a few other european monarchs and the succession takyah tunggu mati. and she probably wld have if chuck didn't eff-up his marriage and di went and died so spectacularly and so tragically. after that the queen cldn't very well do it as the brits were hostile to camilla. only now they seem to mellow abit towards horseface. :D

you sum it up ever so succinctly, mekyam! ditto that... :-))

sian charles... all his peers had gotten their dream jobs and either had or will retire from it. He's the only one still waiting :-)

I hope william doesn't have to wait too long. It'd be a pity if he ascends the throne after he has lost his good looks entirely.. Boy, he sure looks more and more like charles everyday!

Kama At-Tarawis said...

Pak Idrus - yes, and I remember reading the article and commenting upon it.. :-D

Yan - betul tu. in fact, saya jugak masih ingat duit siling empat segi yg ada image king george VI, her father.. hehehe

sue - it would ideal kalau the brits make do without charles altogether and install william instead.. hehehe.. having said that, i concur with you.. 'sian charles'..

Aunty Kama,
Forgive me if my take on Malaysian history is wrong; seems that she has also met all six Malaysian PMs and outlived 3 of them. But this fact doesn't seem to matter? purrr....meow!

Kama At-Tarawis said...

cat - it matters, most definitely. in fact i was in the process of looking up old pixs of her with our PMs, but you beat me to it with yr query.. hehehe

pakmat - by the time i entered school, merdeka was four years old so i was spared the daily morning ritual of "God Save The Queen" heheheh.. having said that, i guess there remains a wee bit of anglophilism in the likes of us i.e those born prior to independence.

ida - you are not alone. when i first learned of this, i also felt 'pandai sikit'.. hehehe

Mak aiii, are we that young aleady.
Cucu lagi 8 bulan baru datang.:-)

Some said those days, their school, ada patung salib disetiap atas blackboard. Papan hijau actually.

If it is so hijau, why thy call it black. Unsolved mistries for the past 70 years.

Some also said thy used to carry papan hijau dalam bag. Tak ader buku tulis.

Some also said, asam boi (kedah said asam koo), 1 sen duit tembaga dapat lima biji.

Good old days. It was conveyed that nasi lemak 5 sen sebungkus.

Now Aloq Setaq 60 kupang, KL 1 ringgit lima kupang.

Halem - tua pada umur, muda pada hati.. hehehehe. when i first started school in 1961, memang pakai papan slate lagi, belum ada exercise books. tulis dengan kalam. bila kalam tumpul, asah kat tepi longkang kelas.. LOL... bawak pi sekolah 10 sen everyday - 5 sen beli nasi lemak, 5 sen beli air sirap. la ni budak2 bawak pelbagai jenis buku sampai nak bengkok tulang belakang..
