Makang Lagi!

Hard 'g's tumbled fast and furious down the gentle slopes of  Taman Tun Dr Ismail's Rasta Food Court this afternoon when some 1,500 Trengganu-born city dwellers converged for "Jamuan Mesra 2011", PESAT's annual sambutang raya get-together.

The cheerful cries of  slekang, slekang! (welcome!) greeted us as we arrived at Rasta around noon. Thankfully, the weather was kind; the past few days had been either jo'ong (cloudy) or outright ujang (rainy).

Host PESAT (Persatuan Anak-anak Terengganu di Selangor & Wilayah Persekutuan) did a commendable job with the organising.

A lavish spread of East Coast specialties awaited; nasi dagang & ikang aya & aca timung, krepok gonde & air lada, ttupak daong palah goreng & samba ikang & ayang, nasi ujang panah & gula daging, tape, sate, lopak tikang, akok... and many many more..

As always, occasions like this afforded opportunities to get reacquainted with long-lost kawang-kawang lama (old friends), especially those from our childhood days.

And we met plenty, amongst them Normala from my own neighbourhood (she lives down the road at Athinahappan), Dato' Samsudin (we call him Nung) and his brother Bashir (we grew up together in Bukit Besi), and I had a surprise meeting with Aminah Idris, 1970 headgirl of Dungun English Secondary School (DESS), who now calls Shah Alam home.

And for once, I managed to control my food intake by not overdoing it till sekok se'eh (to the brim) as in the past. It wasn't easy, though... lapo mata most of all..

In all, good food, superb company; a wonderful outing!

From left: Bashir, moi, Mala & Nung. Dato Sam a.k.a. Nung is also Pak Abu's golf kaki; he had known Pak Abu well before I did..

I'm so happy this year three (Ani, Izah, Idah) of my  five sisters could make it to the gathering. From left: my brother-in-law Atan, his wife and my sister Zahana who, for some unfathomable reason ended up with the moniker Ani since small, nephew Anoh (with his back to the camera.. aparaa), another sister Zaridah, the glamour-puss of the family, yours truly, the family's sempoi-puss, and Idah's colleague Rosnah. Nice to have met you, Mek Ros!

PESAT staff hard at work registering new members..

Makang session in full swing...

Muzik pong ader gok dalang tengoh panah liklik tu! (dalam panas terik tu pun ada muzik). "Kunang Kunang", made up of teenage boys, provided entertainment..

The cendol stall... now you know who to call if you want really good cendol.. beh giler...(plus, mamak tu hensem gok.. LOL)

Tranu folks fry their ketupat and eat them with fish/chicken serunding that's unmistakably sweet, just the way we like it :-)

Glorious Nasi Dagang..!

Nasi dagang's accompaniment, sweet tuna fish curry.

Satay is a must.. pong sweet gok; doh nokwak guaner mek, orang Tranu ni manih2 blaker.. (satay was also sweet, nak buat camana mek, orang Tranu ni semuanya manis2 belaka..:D)
