Oh, Those Sneaky Villas...

46 ELUSIVE PRIVATE POOL VILLAS
BY THE HILLY NATURESCAPES.

Say again?

I can't, for the life of me, figure out the type of villas the developer is trying to market. What kind of abode is an elusive villa?

Exclusive villas I can comprehend; so are villas with their own private pools. Elusive villas, on the other hand, have that 'deceptive' feel about them.

Let's check out what 'elusive' means. Chambers Synonyms and Antonyms defines 'elusive' as (among others) baffling, evasive, illusory, indefinable, intangible, puzzling, shifty, slippery...

A criminal on the run is elusive, sneaking this way and that to avoid getting caught. One wonders why villas need to cower and creep as well.

Perhaps all that the developer means is that the villas are secluded, away from prying eyes. If true, say so lah, why get your knickers in a twist over something so simple.

Now let's move on to "Hilly Naturescapes", where these sneaky villas will take root. What the blazes are hilly naturescapes?

If the villas are to be built on a hillside, by a hill, on a hilltop, down a hill or even burrowed under a hill, why not say it as it really is instead of using such convoluted spiel.

Residences like the ones touted above, limited in number and with individual swimming pools too, don't come a dime a dozen.

It wouldn't be too far-fetched to assume each unit would cost at least a couple of million ringgit.

It's niche marketing at best, targeting at a very select crowd, so the developer should have been a bit more meticulous with their ad materials.

This banner ad is one of a few erected all over my backyard of Taman Tun Dr Ismail. Malu lah...

Puteri,

I think they meant exclusive, obviously the advertising agency is very careless with the copy. But these days, it is very common to find such glaring errors.

Aunty Puteri,
I've seen an ad that says "Semi-Designed Houses for Sale". Does that mean that the houses were not fully designed? Like developer design half and buyer completes it? Perhaps what they really meant was semi-detached houses. I guess many people have heard/used semi-d without really knowing what the "d" stands for. Adoi...jadi kucing lagi baiklah. har har har *evil laughs*
