Gems from 'Peanuts'

Following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, creator of the "Peanuts" comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just read straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last few Academy Award winners for best actor/actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners
.

How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. They are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school...
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who've made you feel appreciated & special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier, don't you think? So here's the lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are NOT the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care.

Salam Kak Puteri,

A. Satupun tak ingat!,
B. Terrible,
C. Rahsia, kalau bagitahupun tak terkesan pada org lain,
D. Yes, much easier.

Adakala benda yang dirasa remeh itulah yang lebih bermakna. I certainly need to be reminded. Thanks Kak Puteri.

A few teachers who aided my journey through school.

Mr Nadarajah, Mr Yip Moon Chee, Mr Tan Peng Chuan, Mr Majid (Became a general in the RMAF), Mr Omar aka Awang Dekor. Mr James Fernanades, Miss Rajma Johnson who later became his wife. Many more. Love them all at the DES and later DESS.

Those were the days. Represented the school in everything and any thing

They came from a far to educate us and aided us through the most important phase of our Journey.

This was just before and after our independance. Now it is so different

May God bless them all.

Deli - yup, nampak remeh tapi sebenarnya sangat bererti.

Mohamed - you're a good one, masih ingat nama2 those teachers of long-ago who were prominent in your growing up years.

For me, I could definitely recall the ones in DESS who made a difference in my life m- cikgu jawariah who taught me english, history teacher mr ooi who accompanied my singing on his guitar during concerts, cikgu mustafa ali (now Pas supremo) who gave me a 4-month crash course in malay literature for my mce.. may God bless them all..

Mekyam & 3yh - sometimes we need to remind ourselves of the obvious :-D
