16 Sept - Hari Malaysia

It has been 46 years since Persekutuan Tanah Melayu (Malaya) became Malaysia. On this day in 1963 we welcomed Sabah and Sarawak into our fold. Let's not forget history. Selamat Menyambut Hari Malaysia!

This is a significant date, but why does it seem almost neglected/forgotten?

In my family, this date is remembered for something else. It's the date my father passed away over 30 years ago. I was still a baby then

qoth - even though it is not a public holiday - we can't possibly have more than one national day - it should be given due recognition by way of celebration.

as adequately explained by JebatMustDie (in answer to pakatan rakyat's demand that the 5 PR states declare 16/9 a public holiday), even US celebrates Independence Day on 4/7 although at that time baru 13 states had joined the Union. Hawaii became the 50th state only in august 1959.

oldstock - that's commendable of you; perihatin kepada saudara kita di sabah & sarawak.

cn - thanks and same to you too. tak datang shopping in kl ker?

dm - ah, tq for dropping by and have a good holiday this raya season!

sue - al-fatihah buat allahyarham. walaupun dah lama, kenangan tetap tak luput.

selamat belated hari malaysia from me, too!

i think it's up to us to give significance to anything. 916 have definitely been neglected in the national consciousness.

It would not be easy for me to forget 1963. A year later I got married and the following year the young couple was sent to JESSELTON. I was to serve there during the early years of anti Malaysia time.
Salaam and Selamat Hari Raya
