Bunny Year, Bunny Thoughts..

Convention dictates that I, at the age of 56 going 57, not to mention a mother of four and stepmother of three, should already have a son- or daughter-in-law or two in tow.

Convention also dictates that because the first three of the brood are already in their early- to mid-30s, they should have married and procreated like rabbits by now.

Further, convention also dictates that because the remaining four have all hurtled past the quarter century mark (although they have yet to reach 30), they should, at the very least, have potential mates in mind.

Now, Pak Abu's a step away from 60. Mak Labu too is closing in. Whither 'em menantus? Cucus? Anyone listening?

[Just my thoughts running gamut today....]

PS: Or shall I shower and 'simbah' them all with 'air bunga'? With water collected in 'buluh betung' from 7 'hulu sungai'? The mind boggles..

Menantu - son/daughter in law
Cucu - grandchild
Simbah - drench
Air bunga - water laden with fragrant petals
Buluh betung - bamboo
Hulu sungai - upper part of a river

..salam lady..:)..before JCaesar makes it the fashion, there r several things ordinary mortals cannot baby's delivery and two, jodoh, marriage....these days there r designer babies with predetermined date of birth right to the last nano yet there r no designer mates..but trying to get a mate to last a lifetime, one that is as durable as the seasons, is a wee bit difficult..of course, we can resort to matchmaking...but I can imagine the response you will get by just daring to breath the word..and coming from me, a derringer of a male, sounds a bit false..:), relax..the time will come when the time comes..sometimes just lurking around the corner..meantime, enjoy your moments with them..cheers

Couldnt help but chortle..cos teringat kisah one relative dulu macam ni lah tunggu bilalah nak dapat menantu/cucu...sekali, hambik kau - dapat 3 menantu in a year dan the following year 3 cucus in span of few months...and 2 more in waiting...

Insya Allah, mana tahu tetiba jodoh sampai, serentak semua nak kawin!

Why the rush Puteri? Don't worry.
Enjoy the kids while they are still with you.
Dah jadi hak orang, susah.
Jodoh akan datang dengan sendirinya. Tak perlu mandi bunga or whatever.
I am younger than you but I became a grandma at 48
I have a 4-year old grand-son and a 2-year old grand-daughter.
And you know what, when you are a granny, they will think you are so old.
So relish your status now. Jadi nenek tua, tau. hahaha.

Dear Puteri,Maybe you compared your kid's marital status to your own, married at the ripe age of 20 or 19 and divorced at the age of what? still young but had to take care of small kids. Your kids might remembered your pain so they don't want to have your experience. Am I right, if I am wrong minta maaf banyak for being insolent. Thank you.

Kama At-Tarawis said...

anon - no, you are not being insolent, far from it. i was married at 20 and divorced at 33, with 4 kids in tow. i do believe the breakdown of my marriage, to a certain degree, contribute towards their reluctance in marrying. perhaps they are afraid of responsibilities, seeing how i had to shoulder everything alone.

the only reason why i speak my heart is because as a parent, for as long as your adult children (especially daughters) aren't married and have families of their own, your responsibility as a parent doesnt ease up at all. i guess i feel tired, sometimes, that's all.

This was the same lament that was spewed by my mother when I was a divorcee for 4 years.

She kept nagging that I was not going to the right places to meet the right men. In her words; "Gi memanjat ke bukit ke air terjun dgn kengkawan nak jumpa saper? Jantan pun tak mboh orang lasak cam ngko!"

But I also bet that it was her doa that led me later to remarry, coz if it was up to me, single life is far more interesting! Hahahahaha...

Kama At-Tarawis said...

Vee - hahahaha, isyy what you said made a lot of sense..memang singlehood much more interesting! Tapi ada bed warmer ok gak.. LOL

Har! I've just read this Mak.
In all seriousness, I would love to get married. But just like what your friends say: "takde jodoh lagi". What to do?

The next time you come across a beautiful Malay girl (25-30, fair complexion, pale-white skin, hourglass-like 36-25-34 figure, 155-170cm tall, drives a car nicer than mine, soft-spoken, loves to eat but stays slender, quite daft & blur so I can manipulate her into thinking the way I do), please introduce ya.

Small requirements for a big step no? :)

I lup you!

(oh, and of course must be religiously-rooted oso la)

Kak Teh said...

I have a 25 to 30 year old who is fair skin and slender but soft spoken, haiya, must work on that one. Her old banger was dragged to the caryard by AA and she goes around by bicycle or skateboard. she does kickboxing in spare time .

Puteri, my daughter is so going to kill me in round one of kickboxing when she reads this!
