Vuvu voom Raya..

This year's Hari Raya decor at One Utama Shopping Centre (New Wing) in Bandar Utama departed from the usual folksy theme to present this elaboration that looks like an upturned vuvuzela which, unfortunately, doesn't appeal to my sense of tradition.

Not that there is anything wrong with all those embellishments. It's just me, I guess, still wrapped in my kampung cocoon and wanting more of the same.

Last year they recreated a padi field here, complete with batas (ridges) and padi thresher. The year before, it was a kampung nelayan (fishing village) scene, with a thatched hut, fishing boat, trawler's nets and bubu (fish traps).

Prior to that they recreated a typical kampung melayu of the '60s scene; wooden house with a wide veranda and tempayan air (earthenware jar) at the foot of the stairs, wickerworks, a shining red Vespa in the compound. The Vespa really brought back sweet memories..

This stall is one of few selling raya cookies. I was too busy snapping pictures to take a closer look at what they had to offer. I think I'll come back to check out the selection here (also because the lady manning it was pleasant and cheerful)...

A few steps away from the 'vuvuzela' monstrosity was this florist..

... and next to it was this Cocoa Tree stall laden with chocolates of all kinds..

And to think that I went to One Utama today because I wanted to be amongst the first patrons when Jusco officially opened it doors this morning after almost half a year of renovations.

Looking at the long queue of vehicles entering OU Old Wing, I changed my mind. No way was I going to allow myself be unceremoniously elbowed by determined women seeking opening-day bargains.

Thus the shift of attention to the New Wing where a quick peek at RM5 shop, Daiso, got me in the mood to check out the decor. No, I didn't get any shopping done today..

Puteri, I don't like the decor either. I was trying to figure out whether they are some kind of umbrella or mushroom (?) but read in the papers that the designer incorporated batik into the ...whatever. I prefer traditional decor.
Dok busy preparing for the wedding ke?

those things sure look very futuristic. Perhaps this year we are welcoming visitors to celebrate Raya from the celestial kot...

ninot - there's something in us yg masih 'old school' ekk..

cat - orang 'biru' tak dibenarkan jual kuih, nanti kena politicised.. kata BN punya stall pulak..LOL

sam - we can hardly cope with what we hv on earth, as it were. the very thought of aliens landing kat OU is spine-tingling (not those PATI aliens la.. yg tu dah bosan dah..lol)
